The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has formed a committee to vet its Vice Presidential Candidate for the 2023 elections.
Mr. Debo Ologunagba, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, made the announcement in an Abuja statement on Wednesday.
According to Ologunagba, the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) established the Presidential Candidate Screening Committee in accordance with Part VI, paragraph 14 of the PDP’s Electoral Guidelines.
Chief Tom Ikimi would serve as Chairman of the Committee, with Dr. Akilu Indabawa as Secretary and Mr. Sunday Omobo as Administrative Secretary, according to him.
Capt. Idris Wada, Chief Osita Chidoka, Binta Bello, Chief Mutiat Adedoja, Austin Opara, Prof. Aisha Madawaki, Mrs. Ayotunde George-Ologun, Chief Chidiebelu Mofus, and Fidelis Tapgun were also approved to serve on the committee.
The exercise will take place at the PDP National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Abuja, on Thursday at 10 a.m., according to Ologunagba.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has notified political parties that its candidate nomination portal for the 2023 general elections would close down automatically at 6 p.m. on June 17 for national elections and 6 p.m. on July 15 for state elections.
The commission also said presidential and governorship candidates must be accompanied by the names of their running mates (i.e. Vice Presidential and deputy governorship candidates) without which the nomination would be invalid.
