Intending and arriving passengers and other commuters have frown at the occupation of the bus shelters at the Lagos airports by some mentally unstable persons.
It is now a common sight to see these group of people, males and females with dirty bags and clothes either sitting or sleeping inside the bus shelters.
Because of their presence at the various bus stops where the shelters are built, many commuters would rather converge on the pedestrian walk ways to wait and board buses and taxis even though it is not safe for them to do so.
Some of these unstable persons sometimes sit or stand at the entrance of the domestic terminals, the popular Obi village, strabag, Bessam bus stops and the toll gates.
Commuters who spoke to our correspondent on the development said such person should not be found around the airport as they could constitute a threat to the security of the environment.
They called on the concerned authority to take action to prevent such persons from gaining access to the sensitive areas of the airports.
Also a common sight within the environment are beggars and hawkers.
The beggars resume as early as 7am every morning to beg for arms while the hawkers flock to the area when there is a gridlock especially in the evenings.
Commenting on the development, the General Manager, Public Affairs, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, Mrs. Henrietta Yakubu said, the Aviation Security, AVSEC, had commence raiding of these group of persons.
According to her, the mentally unstable ones would be taken far away from the airport while the hawkers are arrested and handed over to the police.
She however said, she was not sure if beggars were still within the airport.
