Following the impeachment of Rauf Olaniyan, the Oyo State House of Assembly on Monday confirmed the appointment of Adebayo Lawal as the new Deputy Governor.
According to Insightnaijatv.com, the nomination of Lawal to the legislature for consideration as a substitute for Olaniyan by Governor Seyi Makinde came after the approval.
Lawal, the State Housing Corporation’s chairman, previously held the position of attorney general.
He is an Irepo Local Government native and comes from Kisi.
In a letter to the MPs that was distributed during the plenary, the governor nominated Lawal.
House took a brief break soon after Olaniyan was removed from his position as deputy governor.
At around 12.15 pm, the MPs met once more to discuss the selection of the new deputy governor.
While reading the letter from the Executive, the Speaker, Adebo Ogundoyin, said that it was in reaction to a previous letter the lawmaker had addressed to the Governor on July 18 advising him of Olaniyan’s impeachment.
The House Majority Leader, Sanjo Adedoyin, defended Lawal’s nomination, saying that given his prior contributions to the advancement of the state, the nomination should be favorably examined, authorized, and adopted.
Kazeem Olayanju, who represents the Irepo/Olornsogo State Constituency, seconded the proposal and urged the House to confirm Lawal as the new deputy governor of Oyo State.
The speaker proposed the nomination for a voice vote, which resulted in a “ayes” vote.
He claims that Lawal’s appointment as the state’s deputy governor has been approved following the voting.
However, the House postponed the plenary session until July 21.
