Governor of Osun State, Adegboyega Oyetola, has issued a warning to governorship candidates of various political parties and their followers not to commit acts of violence anywhere in the state.
The governor stated that anyone caught in the act of violence would be prosecuted according to the law’s terms.
Mr. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, Oyetola’s Special Adviser on Civic Engagement, revealed this at the engagement event held with the Beer Sellers Association of Nigeria, Osun chapter on Sunday.
In a statement, Oyintiloye stated that his objective is to ensure that there is no violence before, during, or after the governorship election in the state, which will take place in three months.
On July 16, Oyetola will run for re-election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress.
He said, “Election should not be a do-or-die affair. I appeal to my fellow contestants to operate within the ambit of the law during their campaigns and during the election.
“My administration is committed to a peaceful and rancor-free election Anyone caught planning to unleash violence before, during or after the election will be dealt with according to the law.
“You can testify to the fact that my administration is masses-friendly that as improved socio-economic wellbeing of the state and to sustain these achievements and do more, I need your support in the coming election.”
The governor also urged members of the organization not to allow criminals to use their recreation centers as hideouts, particularly with the election approaching.
Owners of relaxation outlets should be extremely watchful, according to the governor of Osun State, and should report peculiar actions and suspicious faces to security officers without regard for patronage or profit.
“This is another reason for a series of engagement meetings based on the quest to engender inclusive and participatory governance, where no social strata of the society will be left out in the policy formulation process,” he said.
Alhaji Kudus Tajudeen, the association’s chairman, praised the governor for several development initiatives around the state.
Members of the association, according to Tajudeen, have decided to assist the governor both collectively and personally in order for him to gain re-election.
