Bishop David Oyedepo, the presiding bishop of Living Faith Church, LFC, worldwide, stated that obedience is preferable to sacrifice, and his wife, Pastor Faith Oyedepo, urged churchgoers to be obedient in the concerns of the Kingdom (of God).
The pair gave a speech at the church’s regular leadership conference in Ogun State’s Canaanland, Ota.
The comments were yesterday regarded as a subtly endorsing Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s nominee for president in the general elections in 2023.
Supporters of the LP presidential candidate have been canvassing under the name “Obi-dients.”
Photos from Obi’s visit to the Oyedepos at the Ota-based church quickly went viral as fans generously posted them on social media.
Invoking Isaiah 1:19–20, Oyedepo’s wife emphasized the necessity for Christians to follow spiritual directives in order to benefit from the bounty of the country.
Her words: “If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land: But if ye refuse and rebel, ye shall be devoured with the sword: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it” (Isa. 1:19-20).
She exhorted the congregation to pray that God’s Spirit would be obedient and at work.
As he explained the covenant of obedience in his own sermon, Bishop Oyedepo stated: “To be obedient is better than sacrifice. Although obedience may be expensive, the benefits are always priceless.
