Biodun Oyebanji, the Governor-elect of Ekiti State, has dismissed allegations of vote-buying against the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state’s just ended governorship election.
Oyebanji disputed the charges while briefing State House correspondents on Monday, shortly after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, according to InsightnaijaTV.
Speaking to reporters, Oyebanji said that neither the ruling party nor he had witnessed any vote-buying, and that he had won the election based on his past performance as the state’s Secretary to the State Government (SSG).
He emphasized that they solicited the electorate for votes, which resulted to their election triumph.
Senator Abdullahi Adamu, the APC National Chairman, who accompanied the governor-elect and certain governors to meet with President Obama, also reacted to the allegations leveled against the ruling party.
He confirmed that the allegations of vote-buying were brought forth by people who had lost at the polls.
Oyebanji was proclaimed the winner after receiving 187,057 votes, more than 100,000 more than his nearest competitor, Segun Oni of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), who received 82,211 votes.
