About one thousand Journalists have signed written petition against the use of biometric card in next week Tuesday’s election of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Lagos Council.
This was announced by the Director-General of Dr. Qasim Akinreti Campaign Organisation, Mr. Fabian Anawo at a News Conference.
Mr. Anawo hailed the idea of the biometric identity cards for Journalists but expressed worry that forcing journalists to pay for it because of election during this Covid-19 era was ill timed.
He pleaded with the National Secretariat of the NUJ to allow the use of employers identity cards for the election.
Mr. Anawo alleged that there were plans by the National Secretariat to impose a Caretaker Committee which is alien to the Union’s constitution.
He advised the National Secretariat to elongate the tenure of the present NUJ Executive like it did for NAWOJ in the event that the election fails to hold on September 29 , as planned.
