Gunmen attacked the home of Mr. Lasun Yusuf, the Labour Party’s (LP) candidate for governor of the state on July 16, according to police in Osun, who made the confirmation on Monday in Osogbo.
SP The residence was targeted early on Monday by an unknown number of gunmen, according to Yemisi Opalola police in Osun.
She claimed that although the attackers fired at Lasun’s building, they were unable to enter before being forced out by security personnel working for the candidate.
She continued by saying that the Divisional Police Officer was on the scene of the attack to assess the situation after the attack was reported to the Ilobu Police Station.
The LP candidate, a former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, had earlier told newsmen that gunmen had stormed his home at around one in the morning.
During the 20 minutes of the onslaught, he claimed, his security team was able to repel the attackers without suffering any casualties.
“At about 1 a.m., my house was attacked; the evidence is very prominent, my building is riddled with bullets.
“In the last three governorship debates we have had, I have never attacked anybody on how to govern Osun.
“Unfortunately, this attack, to my surprise lasted for about 20 minutes. We have evidence of those that actually carried out the attack.
“The police have been to my house to assess the situation and the evidence gathered had been handed over to the police,’’ he said.
