Senator Ike Ekweremadu and his wife Beatrice were both denied bail by the Uxbridge Magistrates Court on accusations that involved organ harvesting.
The “alleged victim is a homeless 15-year-old boy who was brought to the U.K. by Mr. and Mrs. Ekweremadu off the streets of Lagos, Nigeria,” according to an Arise TV report.
“The prosecutors told the court that the former Senate President procured a passport for the boy and claimed he was 21 years old but they discovered that he was 15 years old.
“The prosecutors also told the court that the Ekweremadus have a daughter who has a kidney-related disease and has been on dialysis for quite some time.
“They told the court that it is believed that the plan was to use an organ from the boy on their daughter who appears to need a kidney transplant,” the report read in part.
While Ekweremadu and his wife are being held in custody on remand, the case has been postponed until July 7.
The Ekweremadus had been apprehended at Heathrow Airport, according to the Metropolitan Police.
“Beatrice Nwanneka Ekweremadu, 55 (10.9.66) of Nigeria is charged with conspiracy to arrange/facilitate travel of another person with a view to exploitation, namely organ harvesting.
“Ike Ekweremadu, 60 (12.05.62) of Nigeria is charged with conspiracy to arrange/facilitate travel of another person with a view to exploitation, namely organ harvesting.
“They have both been remanded in custody and will appear at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court later today.”
“A child has been safeguarded and we are working closely with partners on continued support.
“As criminal proceedings are now under way we will not be providing further details,” the statement read.
