The truth is, they are like Emperor Napoleon who represents a ruling class but not with Labour ideologies and Mr. Obi won’t make a difference. He is a capitalist with a different orientation to make a profit not welfarism. Forget his rendition, philosophy, and pragmatism now, if he emerges through the efforts of labour and other horse-trading going on, a true Obi will emerge.
Labour Party, a beautiful bride that comes out every electioneering year but fusses out days before the D-Day is out again. But will it make any difference this time around? Only time will tell.
While It is a good narrative to discuss a better Nigeria with a labour force particularly when the economy is in a bad shape, insecurity created by unemployment and the workforce is in constant agitation for an improved working conditions
but, the dynamics of winning an election and politics in Nigeria where money plays a huge role, maybe another effort in futility a third force.
And until and until we can deescalate monetization of politics in Nigeria, the dream of the Labour Party capturing power is utopian because most labour leaders we have today are either bourgeoise or comprador activists who survive at the table of the political class and will do everything to retain the meal tickets than to jettison it.
You want to disagree but Labour Party has won elections in the past? The answer is, that those elections were won by the full backing of the capitalists and those candidates only used a labour platform and were not with a proletariat concept. They only used labour. The world runs on two principles , you are either the used or the user and the labour platform in our clime is the case of the first.
For instance, in the case of the French Revolution of 1787. It was initiated by the Peasanty/proletariats (Labour ) however, though it initiated the process of revolution they could not sustain it to the end. Consequently, the revolution was hijacked by the middle or burghers class led by Napoleon, and in the end, the latter betrayed the proletariats and their struggle was taken away from them.
Peter Obi as the Presidential flagbearer of the Labour party will end in the case of Napoleon berating the Peasants/Poletriats of the old. If you doubt that ask what became of the relationship between Olusegun Mimiko and Adams Oshiomhole or others who had used labour platform to canvas for votes and power.
