The region needs to open its mind and change its political philosophy, the obstinate notion of sticking to just one-party system is not a healthy investment. Ndi Igbo must open its doors to other parties just like the other regions of Nigeria.
Again my brethren from the land of the rising sun looked us in the face and rubbed us the mud of filth, we came prepared, this time to make a statement and reclaim our manhood sadly like before, we prefer the porridge of the stranger than the delicacies in our kitchen.
Peter Obi was almost there, like a telepathic thunderbolt, he dropped the gauntlet and left for the labour party after raising the Igbo hope for a place in the People’s Democratic Party – a party the Igbos have built their aspirations on. In fact, due to the region’s intimate pact with the PDP, Ndi Igbo lost the chance to produce the senate president in 2015 when Dr Chris Ngige was roundly defeated in his senatorial quest.
With the regions of Nigeria having tasted the juice of power in Nigeria, it naturally and morally falls to the beckon of the East and North central to lay claim to the presidency come 2023 but expectedly, the East just lost another opportunity to speak as a free-born in the Nigerian setup.
Imagine the coordinated and unified voices from Abia, Anambra, Enugu, Ebonyi and Imo speaking in one lump votes for Pius Anyim in the just concluded PDP convention! With Wike and Atiku tearing themselves apart, an underdog in Anyim would have carried the day in a triumphant nzumbu nzumbu Enyimba dance streak but no, my ndi Igbo prefers the drumbeat of others!
As it is, Atiku will likely pick his running mate from the South-South and my south-east may have to wait for another uncertain time politically. I dare to ask, with all the unmitigated loyalty the region has given to the PDP, what is their lot or gain? Like they say, you are treated the way you presented yourself. The region needs to open its mind and change its political philosophy, the obstinate notion of sticking to just one-party system is not a healthy investment. Ndi Igbo must open its doors to other parties just like the other regions of Nigeria.
For now, it’s another letdown by Ndi Igbo.
Forlornly musing.
