Only the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine has been approved by the federal government for use as a booster dose.
Recall that Nigerians who have completed two doses of AstraZeneca, Moderna, Pfizer BioNTech, or one dose of Johnson & Johnson were given booster shots by the federal government on Friday.
From December 10, eligible Nigerians should attend health centers and mass vaccination sites to receive their booster dosage, according to the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NPHCDA).
The Pfizer BioNTech vaccine has been approved as booster doses, according to Faisal Shuaib, executive director of NPHCDA, who spoke at the launch of the mass vaccination of refugees, migrants, and internally displaced persons (IDPs) on Thursday.
“Following the detection of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 in Nigeria, the federal government reviewed the country’s vaccination programme and resolved to introduce the booster dose using the Pfizer BioNTech vaccine across the country,” he said.
Yanda Muhammad, a spokesman for the NPHCDA, told TheCable that the Pfizer vaccination is the only one that the federal government has reintroduced as a booster dosage.
Those who have had full doses of other brands of COVID-19 vaccination can get the Pfizer vaccine as a booster shot, according to him.
