In an attack by gunmen in Rivers State, one soldier was killed and two more were fatally wounded.
The attack took place in the early hours of Sunday along the state’s border between the Asari-Toru and Emohua Local Government Areas.
According to reports, some gunmen ambushed soldiers near Ahiankwo market and opened fire, killing and injuring the victims.
The soldiers were ambushed, according to the Chairman of Akuku-Toru, Rowland Sekibo, who had visited the scene.
On the phone, Sekibo stated that the two injured soldiers were in critical condition, and that efforts were on to transport the wounded soldiers for treatment.
According to a source who visited the Military Hospital on Aba Road in Port Harcourt, the two survivors were taken to the hospital’s Emergency Unit and are now undergoing treatment.
Lieutenant Colonel Charles Ekeocha, spokesman for the Nigerian Army’s Six Division in Port Harcourt, could not corroborate the claim as of press time because calls and text messages to his phone were not returned.
Meanwhile, DSP. Grace Iringe-Koko, the State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, said she was aware of the development but wanted to authenticate its veracity.
