Eyitayo Jegede has emerged Peoples Democratic Party flag-bearer for the November 26 governorship election in Ondo state
He polled 888 votes to defeat his closest rival and incumbent Deputy Governor of the state, Agboola Ajayi who garnered 657 votes and other seven aspirants.
After gathering the highest number of votes in the indirect mode adopted by the party, Chairman of the PDP Primary Election Committee and Governor of Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi declared Jegede the winner of the exercise.
The primary held on Wednesday, 22nd July, 2020 at Dome Centre, Akure, is chaired by the governor of Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.
Eyitayo Jegede will now compete with the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and incumbent governor, Rotimi Akeredolu in the governorship election which is scheduled for October.

Eyitayo Olayinka Jegede, Senior Advocate of Nigeria, was born to the family of late Chief Johnson Bosede Jegede, the Odopetu of Isinkan, Akure, and Mrs Caroline Oluwatola Jegede (nee Asokeji) from Ipele town, in Owo Local Government Area.
Jegede attended St. Stephen’s “A” Primary School Modakeke, Ife and was at Aquinas College Akure from 5th January 1973 to July 1978 for his secondary education. He had his Higher School Certificate education at Christ School, Ado Ekiti. He also captained the University volleyball team at the University of Lagos where he had his law degree course between 1980 and 1983.
Mr. Eyitayo Jegede, SAN, qualified as a lawyer in 1984 after the one year mandatory programme at the Nigeria Law School, Victoria Island, Lagos. He was appointed a Notary Public by the Chief Justice of Nigeria in 1992 and was elevated to the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria on 16th December, 2008. He had been actively involved in political cases and election petition matters, an area of law where his industry and practice is well noted and respected.
Alfred Agboola Ajayi (born 24 September 1968) is a Nigerian politician, lawyer, and businessman. He serves as the Deputy Governor of Ondo State and was elected into office on 26 November 2016 as running mate to Governor Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN) under the All Progressive Congress (APC) party.
On 21 June 2020, Ajayi resigned his membership from the ruling party APC and defected to the opposition party People’s Democratic Party (PDP), citing irreconcilable issues between him and his Governor Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN) and that the APC party ‘has become a poisoned space.
Eddy Olafeso was born in Okitipupa in Ondo State and obtained First Class honors in English from the Obafemi Awolowo University in 1985.
He has experience in the courier industry, working in managerial capacities in Red Star Express and DHL International for over a decade. He also held various positions in the PDP in Ondo State including Secretary PDP, Ondo State 2007 and Chairman, PDP State Contact Committee. He has been a member of the Institute of Management since 1990 and Marketing Association of Nigeria since 1991.
Mr Olafeso was elected Vice National Chairman (South-west) in the PDP elective convention held in December 2017.
