Oba Oyewuni Ajagungbade is said to have taken the throne on October 24, 1973.
The Soun was born on May 27, 1926 in Ogbomoso to Oba Bello Afolabi Oyewumi Ajagungbade II and Ayaba Seliat Olatundun Oyewumi. From 1932 to 1938, he attended St. Patrick Primary School in Oke Padre, Ibadan. He enrolled at the Ogbomoso People’s Institute in 1938, which eventually became Ogbomoso Grammar School.
Because he was unable to complete his official schooling due to a lack of financing, the young Oladunni began his commercial career by trading in woven textiles, which carried him to places like Ilesa. In 1967, he established J.O. Oyewumi and Co Nigeria Ltd, a limited liability firm that specialized in wholesale and retail commerce. The company grew from humble beginnings to cover real estate and hotels. In Jos, he founded the famed Terminus Hotel and El-Duniya Hotel.
In 1954, he was hired as a distributor for the French-owned trading corporation CFAO after putting in a lot of effort and ongoing self-improvement (including enrolling in evening educational schools to further his education). In 1958, Prince Oyewumi, as he was known, took his first business trip abroad. He visited Hamburg and Bremen in West Germany, Paris and Marseille in France, and London in the United Kingdom throughout his journey. By meeting businesses and visiting industries during his vacation in Europe, he was able to explore options for expanding his firm.
