Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has “a lot of questions to answer” over the killing of Bola Ige, according to Ayo Adebanjo, the acting leader of Afenifere, a Yoruba socio-political organization.
Ige, the former Attorney-General of the Federation under President Olusegun Obasanjo, was assassinated on December 23, 2001.
However, assertions made by Bisi Akande in his recently published autobiography, “My Participations,” have reignited debate over the former attorney general’s assassination.
In his book ‘My Participations,’ Akande accused the Obasanjo administration of being reluctant to pursue Ige’s murders.
Because of Ige’s popularity, certain officials in Obasanjo’s cabinet chose to deal with him, according to Akande.
In response to these allegations, Adebanjo told AriseTV on Tuesday that “Obasanjo’s government cannot claim innocence in Bola Ige’s death.”
He added that “a lot of questionable deaths happened during the regime of Obasanjo”.
Without a doubt, Obasanjo’s government cannot claim innocence in Bola Ige’s death. Nobody is denying that, and he has a lot of questions to answer in our opinion. Because I don’t understand how the state’s main legal officer, who has security people escorting him at all times, can have security abandon him as when the assassins arrived, claiming they need to eat,” the Afenifere leader added.
“To be candid, a lot of questionable deaths happened during the regime of Obasanjo. On that score [ in the book of Bisi Akande], I think there’s a point for Obasanjo’s government to answer.”
