Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has warned Bola Tinubu’s supporters against believing that he has endorsed him for president of the All Progressives Congress.
Obasanjo voiced his displeasure over what he claimed was an unauthorised report of the conversation he and Tinubu had during their private meeting.
The former president stated that the utterances emanating from persons purporting to be Bola Tinubu fans are unhelpful in a statement released by his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi, on Saturday.
Speaker of House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, had said that what transpired during the meeting between Obasanjo and Tinubu was a sign of victory for Tinubu come 2023.
Gbajabiamila had made the statement on Thursday while speaking at the Surulere Local Government Area APC meeting in Surulere, Lagos.
The Speaker claimed to have been present at the Abeokuta meeting held behind closed doors on Wednesday and claimed that based on what he heard there, Tinubu’s presidency was almost a certainty.
Obasanjo responded to the assertion by claiming that it was false and that the sources of the story were biassed against the candidate.
“Those claiming to be insiders at the meeting publishing statements on the conversation and those crediting me with statements I had not made are adversaries of the visitor and are not doing the visit any good,” remarked Obasanjo.
