The leadership of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), on Wednesday, said no camp official or corps member has tested positive in any of the 37 NYSC Orientation Camps nationwide.
NYSC Director, Press and Public Relations, Mrs. Adenike Adeyemi, who disclosed this on Wednesday in Abuja, also debunked rumors that 109 corps members had tested positive to COVID-19.
Adeyemi said only corps members who were tested and confirmed negative were allowed into the camps.
She said: “Any prospective corps member who was tested positive was immediately handed over to the NCDC. The corps members inside the camps are not positive.
“Management hereby restates that there is no COVID-19 positive Corps Member in any of the 37 NYSC Orientation Camps nationwide.
“Please, note that before any prospective Corps Member is admitted into the 37 camps, they must undergo COVID-19 test.
“Only those that test negative are admitted, the same rule applies to camp officials. Those that test positive are handed over to the NCDC for treatment and management.”
She added that it was pertinent to state that there is a gulf of difference between a Corps Member and a prospective Corps Member, saying that one becomes a Corps Member after admittance to the camp, registered and administered the Oath of national allegiance.
She clarified: “Anyone mobilized for Service, but has not gone through the aforesaid process is not a Corps Member.
“In view of the foregoing explanation, there is no red alert in NYSC Orientation Camps as all Corps Members, as well as camp officials admitted in the camps are COVID-19 negative.”
She said experts calling for the closure of NYSC camps have been given wrong information while urging parents to disregard the reports as their children and wards are safe in the camps.
