The Yobe State House of Assembly has been urged to join other States in passing the local government autonomy bill by Comrade Baba Shehu Mustapha, Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Yobe State Chapter.
In order for the local government autonomy bill, which was passed by the National Assembly, to receive the President’s assent, it must receive two-thirds support from the State Houses of Assembly. Mustapha, who made the call while leading other union members to the State Assembly on an advocacy trip, reminded the State legislators of this requirement.

Eleven states from around the federation have already passed the measure, he continued.
Right Honorable Ahmed Lawan Mirwa, Speaker of the Yobe State House of Assembly, responded by assuring the NULGE leadership that the National Assembly’s LG autonomy bill will be swiftly passed by the House.
The Speaker spoke extensively about the value of local government sovereignty in his capacity as his deputy, Hon. Mohammed Isa Bello.
When the bill becomes law, he claimed, it will strengthen the nation’s local government structure.
