As part of its welfare scheme for it’s members, the Lagos Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, has assured Journalists that it will arrange further medical check-ups for the three Photo Journalists who were attacked during the recent ENDSARS protests in Lagos.
The Council also says it has taken steps to augment the welfare efforts of the Management of the Broadcasters at the State owned Television station as well as the Security Agents which were affected in the Complex.
These are contained in a statement signed by the Chairman of the Council, Dr Quasim Akinreti.
The Statement says the Council will also humbly seek an establishment of distress funds for Journalists in the State.
It also says compensation for the damaged cameras and other equipment of the Photo Journalists, will be sought and obtained for easy replacement.
The Chairman’s statement was titled, “Message of Peace after Our Losses” and the Chairman said that, he had briefed the State Commissioner for Information and Strategy and the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Youths, on the need to support all efforts the Council is muzzling to assist Journalists in the State and their various Media Organizations.
