Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the embattled leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has not been removed or replaced, according to his family.
Kanu was said to have been replaced as the leader of the Biafra organization in the United Kingdom by Sofia Chinyere Kalu.
According to reports, Kalu, who serves as the group’s Financial Secretary in the United Kingdom, has assumed the role of Kanu, who is now detained by the Department of State Security Service, DSS.
This was corroborated by Ezeji Chukwuma, a separatist who runs the IPOB and Radio Biafra Community Interest Companies (CIC) Registry in London, UK, and Simon Ekpa, a self-styled disciple of Kanu.
Kingsley ‘Kanunta’ Kanu, the IPOB leader’s brother, responded to the reports by denying that his elder brother had been removed from his position.
Mrs. Kalu has not been selected as the new leader of the proscribed group, as widely reported, Kanunta stated in a tweet on Friday.
He wrote: “#MaziNnamdiKanu is the ONLY leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
“We should learn to address issues and not to create one because we’ve lost men in this struggle and we are still losing men.
“A butterfly can never call itself a bird. Biafra is a spirit.”
