Nigerians are today more intelligent than their leaders, according to Matthew Hassan Kukah, the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese. He also said that it wouldn’t be a terrible idea for people who don’t know to pursue knowledge.
The clergyman continued by saying that agitations are caused because Nigerians are now more mentally aware than those in power.
During the launch of his new book, “Broken Truth,” on Wednesday, August 31, 2022 in Abuja as part of the celebrations for his 70th birthday, Kukah made the observation.
According to the Bishop, a major cause of the ongoing unrest in Nigeria is that our leaders are unaware of the significant mental advancements that common people have made.
“Those who are being governed are more intelligent and endowed. And it will not have been a bad thing if people who don’t know seek knowledge.”
Speaking earlier at the same occasion, Bishop Kukah noted that using religion to sway politics never delivers beneficial outcomes, warning that such comes with terrible consequences.
He cautioned against Nigeria taking that path by using the example of what transpired in Germany under Adolf Hitler.
You can see from history that using religion to influence politics has negative results. All we have to do is look at Germany. Hitler serves as a clear example of the consequences.
