The National Association of Nigerian Traders, NANT, has sent an “SOS” to the Federal Government, to take the matter of constant harassment of Nigerian Traders in Ghana, to the ECOWAS Court, for expedited adjudication.
The National President of the Association, Dr. Ken Ukoha sent the plea in Abuja when he led a delegation of the Association’s members, including some Nigerian Traders in Ghana, to the Minster of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, for timely intervention on the matter.
Dr. Ukoha told newsmen after the meeting, that the Traders were in his Office because the Traders are being labelled “Migrants” by the Ghanaian Authorities and therefore would like the Nigerian Immigration Service to step in and resolve the matter.
He recalled with regrets, the series of xenophobic attacks against Nigerian Traders in South Africa few months ago, the awesome molestation and constant harassments of Nigerians in Lebanon as well as the humiliation of Nigerians in Libya and wondered why Nigerians are gradually becoming an endangered species around the Countries where they pursue their legitimate endeavors.
The NANT’s President expressed sadness that many of the Traders have totally complied with the laws of Ghana, which are even contradictory with the provisions of the ECOWAS Treaty and Protocols, yet their businesses are being attacked and closed down.
Responding, the Minister assured the delegation that Government was working at resolving the matter, with a strong assurance that the Federal Government was not sleeping over it but would rather use diplomatic means to tackle the issue for an amicable resolution.
