The Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, stated on Friday the Federal Government could construct three new correctional centers with 3,000 capacity in the country.
Aregbesola, who disclosed this at the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) commissioning, Osun State Command Headquarters Complex in Osogbo, stated the decision to set up the correctional centers became aimed at decongesting the present centers in the country.
He added that the new custodial facilities could be located in Abuja, Kano, and Rivers.
He stated the federal government planned to increase the construction of such custodial centers to the six geopolitical zones in the country.
“The custodial project in Kano is almost completed,” the minister said.
