Nigeria and twenty nine other Countries are set to collaborate in tackling debris in their marine environments.
These Countries have teamed up to ensure that Marine plastics litter, which comes under the ambitious GloLitter Partnership Project, benefits their Governments and organisations.
Plastics litter has devastating effect on oceans, marine life and human health. It also has immeasurable impact on Fishing and Shipping Industries.
The Glo Litter Project which is up for a successful start, after getting thirty Countries on board, comes through as a major international initiative that will help reduce Marine plastics litters from Marine Transport and Fishing Industries.
Five regions will be represented in the global efforts and they include Asia, Africa, the Caribbean, Latin America and the Pacific.
The project is implemented by the International Maritime Organization, IMO and Food and Agricultural Organization, FAO, with initial funding from the Government of Norway through the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation.
Nigeria is among the participating Countries, others are Brazil, Costa Rica, Cote D’ivoire.
Other Countries are India, Indonesia, Jamaica, Kenya, Madagascar as well as Vanuatu.
The project will help Marine Transport and Fishing Sectors, to move towards a low plastics future. To achieve this goal, the initiative will assist developing companies to apply best practices for prevention, reduction and control of marine plastics litter from the Marine environment.
