The suspension of Mrs. Joyce Oduah as the organization’s general secretary has been approved by the national executive council of the Nigerian Bar Association.
Her suspension was approved late on Sunday night at the NBA Annual General Conference’s NEC Meeting, which is holding at the Eko Atlantic City in Lagos.
In anticipation of the NEC’s approval, the NBA’s National Officers had suspended the General Secretary on August 15, 2022.
Nine of the eleven officers who signed the resolution approving the suspension also decided to recommend her removal from office for egregious misconduct and to submit her for disciplinary action to the NEC.
The NEC decided to ratify the suspension during its meeting on Sunday night after taking into account the wise advice of the bar’s elders, including former presidents and Senior Advocates of Nigeria, on the need to preserve the bar’s unity and the legacy of the Olumide Akpata administration.
As a result, Mrs. Joyce Oduah stands suspended as general secretary, and Uche Nwadialo has been confirmed as acting general secretary of NBA.
However, because the court case regarding Joyce Oduah’s removal from office is still pending, the petition for her resignation was postponed.
