Tuesday saw chaos in the Ogun State capital of Abeokuta as irate customers confronted two banks over their inability to get cash owing to the limited supply of the newly printed naira notes.
According to eyewitnesses, the affected banks—Access and First bank branches—located in various parts of the town had to be quickly shuttered as the enraged mob set fire to and damaged property.

A bloodied young man can be seen pleading for aid as the enraged mob hurls chairs and other objects in the video. Another voice can be heard claiming that the bleeding man was shot.
While there are indications that the protests have spread to other parts of Abeokuta, the protestors can also be seen burning tyres on key highways in the Panseke, Sapon, and Oke-Ilewo sections of the city.
According to witnesses, the violence spread into the streets, where cars were set ablaze. Security personnel were then sent in to control the unrest and disperse the mob, which resulted in gunfire.
