The governor of Rivers, Nyesom Wike, claims that his sole regret is not having had the opportunity to tell bandits “enough is enough.”
When the dualized Ogbunuabali-Eastern bypass route was opened in Rivers, Wike declared he would successfully combat banditry if given the chance.
Tuesday saw the opening of the road by All Progressives Congress (APC) member and former Sokoto governor Aliyu Wamakko.
According to Wike, Nigeria’s challenges can be solved successfully if the nation is led by people who are unselfish and charitable.
He continued by saying that even if he weren’t a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, his commitment to delivering effective leadership would not waver (PDP).
“Leadership is not about party, leadership is about the individual. Party is only a vehicle to actualise your ambition, to be able to tell your people ‘I have this capacity; I have this quality to render services to you’,” he said.
“I challenge everybody. The problem we have in this country today is that we don’t have people who have that passion, who want to serve their people.
“The only regret I have is that I don’t have the opportunity to tell bandits ‘enough is enough’. If I have the opportunity, the bandits know their time will be gone. It’s unfortunate I don’t have it.
“But this one I have, I will use it and serve my people so that they will be happy and know that they deserve the best. ”
Wike’s comments coincide with an uptick in banditry and insurgency-related acts across the nation.
