An furious mob attacked a suspected kidnapper in the Idi-Ori region of Abeokuta North LGA, Ogun State, after a former abductee recognized and identified him.
According to reports, the suspect was wandering around the neighborhood on April 18 when one of his suspected prior victims recognized him and said that he had paid a ransom to the suspect and others.
A mob swarmed on the suspect and beat him to a pulp, according to a witness identified only as Olubukola.
The witness said: “They tied his hands and legs. They beat him and gave him a bloody nose. He would have been lynched if not for the arrival of the police.
“At first, the youths did not want to release him to the police. They said they didn’t trust the police. Their fear was that he might be released on bail. They insisted that they’re very sure he was a kidnapper.”
On Tuesday, Abimbola Oyeyemi, a spokesman for the state police, confirmed the event and said the man remained a suspect while the investigation was underway.
The PPRO, on the other hand, criticized the lynching attempt, claiming that the law did not allow for jungle justice.
Excellent post but I was wondering if you could write a litte more on this topic? I’d be very grateful if you could elaborate a little bit more. Thanks!
