In order to continue their summertime rebuilding under Erik ten Hag, Manchester United has completed the £55 million transfer of Lisandro Martinez from Ajax.
Ten Hag had worked with the Argentina international throughout his previous three seasons at Ajax and had targeted a new center-back during this transfer window.
Martinez has agreed to a five-year contract for £120,000 per week with an option for an additional year with United and Ajax, who rapidly reached an agreement on the £55 million fee earlier in July.
Martinez displays his happiness as he inks his contract with Manchester United ahead of a new season.
Martinez will cost United an initial £46.8 million plus a further £8.5 million, making him the second-most expensive defender in the team’s history behind Harry Maguire.
Martinez referred to joining the Red Devils as an honor and expressed his belief that under Ten Hag, United can become a major power.
He remarked, “It’s an honor to join this fantastic football club.” “I’ve worked incredibly hard to get here, and now that I am, I’m going to push myself even harder.”
‘I’ve been lucky enough to be part of successful teams in my career and that’s what I want to continue at Manchester United. There will be a lot of work to get to that moment, but I firmly believe that under this manager and coaches, and together with my new teammates, we can do it.
