The deadline for paying off all outstanding debts has been extended by the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) from 24 hours to Wednesday, August 23, 2022.
Malam Balarabe Ilelah, the director general of NBC, revealed it in a statement on Saturday in Abuja.
AIT/Ray Power FM (DAAR Communication L.td.), Silverbird TV Network, and 50 other stations had their licences cancelled by NBC on Friday due to arrears totaling N2.6 billion.
The commission instructed NBC offices nationwide to work with the security authorities to ensure quick compliance and ordered the impacted stations to go down in the following 24 hours.
Ilelah, on the other hand, claimed that the request made by the impacted broadcast stations, pertinent stakeholders, and public-spirited individuals and organisations was the reason for the delay of the enforcement date.
This is to let you know that NBC has extended the deadline for paying out any outstanding debts from 24 hours to Wednesday, August 23, for all affected broadcast stations whose licences were revoked and who were given just 24 hours to do so.
The DG stated, “All impacted broadcast stations are required to shut down by 12 a.m. on August 24, 2022, if they fail to pay their debts on or before August 23, 2022.
