The Lekki Concession Company (LCC), the operators of the Lekki tollgate, has claimed the surveillance camera at the tollgate stopped working at 8pm on Tuesday, October 20, the day soldiers allegedly opened fire on #EndSARS protesters.
LCC MD, Abayomi Omomuwa, stated this while appearing at the Judicial Panel of Inquiry set up by the Lagos State Government to probe the Lekki shootings, as well as complaints of human rights abuses against members of the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).
According to him, the company “early in the morning of the 20th, after noticing that our equipment were being vandalised, damaged and stolen, decided to remove the Automatic Plate Number Recognition camera, laptops, and other computer system.”
Led in his evidence-in-chief by I. J Okechukwu, Abayomi denied that the company removed the surveillance camera prior to the shooting incident.
Okechukwu was one of the three lawyers representing Lagos State Government at the panel.
The others are Kayode Enitan, SAN; A. J Owonikoko, SAN, and I.J Okechukwu.
