Pele, the legendary Brazilian footballer, has returned to the hospital for treatment of a colon tumor.
The legend is in stable condition, and the hospital where he is being treated, Sao Paulo’s Hospital Albert Einstein, said on Wednesday that he should be discharged within the next few days, according to the Evening Standard.
In September, Pele underwent surgery to remove a colon tumor and spent nearly a month in the hospital.
At the time, the 81-year-old three-time World Cup winner stated that he would require chemotherapy.
His assistant, Pepito Fornos, told The Associated Press that Pele is undergoing chemotherapy to treat a tumor discovered during routine exams at the end of August.
Pele was admitted to the hospital in September after a tumor in his right colon was discovered during routine tests, according to ESPN. The tumor was removed and sent for examination.
Pele has had hip problems for years and is unable to walk without assistance. His public appearances had already been reduced prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, and he has made only a few unnecessary forays outside his house near Santos since then.
