A prominent elder statesman and leader of Yoruba socio-cultural group Afenifere, Senator Ayo Fasanmi, is dead. He died in the early hours of Thursday at 94.
Fasanmi reportedly died on Wednesday night after a brief illness, according to a family source.
“Papa suffered from age-related illness. He was admitted to hospital two weeks ago during which he was put on oxygen,” the source said.
But, according to the source, Papa recovered a few days ago before his situation deteriorated but later died.
The son of the late Afenifere leader Afolabi confirmed the death: “With gratitude to the Almighty God for a life well spent, we wish to announce the demise of our father, Senator Ayo Fasanmi, at the ripe age of 94 years,”
