President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, is expected to announce his intention to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari as President of Nigeria in 2023 next week.
On Thursday, some senators made attempts to contribute money to his nomination and expression of interest forms, indicating that this is the case.
Lawan has the right to run for president next year, according to some federal MPs in the red house who talked with our correspondent on the condition of anonymity.
Because the All Progressives Congress has not zoned its presidency to any area of the country, one of them from the North-East geopolitical zone believes that having someone of the caliber of the Senate President from the zone would not be out of place.
He said, “The Peoples Democratic Party realized the fact that the North-East geopolitical zone had not produced a President since 1999. So, this is our opportunity to produce one.”
However, Lawan’s media office, led by Senate Chief Whip Orji Uzor Kalu, affirmed in a statement released on Thursday in Abuja that he is running for president in 2023.
Two businessmen from Igbere, Bende Local Government Area of Abia State, Kalu’s hometown, had previously given an aanN100 million cheque for the Senate President, according to the statement.
It further stated that the businesspeople had raised another N100 million for Kalu’s presidential campaign.
The funds were intended to be used to purchase nomination and expression of interest forms for the presidential election in 2023.
According to the statement, both Lawan and Kalu intend to run for President of the United States in 2023 on the APC platform.
This occurred less than 24 hours after the ruling APC’s national leadership released the costs of its nomination and expression of interest forms.
At its most recent meeting in Abuja, the party’s National Executive Committee set the amount for presidential hopefuls at N100 million.
The businessmen, Ukaegbu James, and Nnanna Kalu, announced on Wednesday evening in Abuja, according to the release.
Both Lawan and Kalu, according to the statement released on Thursday, are capable leaders to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.
According to the release, the businesspeople emphasized that the APC required a unifying and committed leader with a thorough understanding of Nigeria to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.
Part of the statement read, “If we must get it right in 2023, we need reprinted leaders like Kalu and Lawan to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari.
“It is time to present our best hands because they won’t be any room for the writing of fake results.
“We are ready to make N200 million available by the weekend to purchase their nomination forms. We are convinced by their track record, managerial skills, experience, and leadership acumen.”
On Thursday, attempts to communicate with the Senate President and his media adviser, Ola Awoniyi, on the subject were unsuccessful.
Neither Lawan nor Awoniyi chose the cup that our journalist presented on Thursday.
As of the time of reporting this report, none of them had responded to the text messages given to them.

Woah! I’m really loving the template/theme of this site. It’s simple, yet effective. A lot of times it’s very difficult to get that “perfect balance” between user friendliness and visual appearance. I must say you have done a excellent job with this. Additionally, the blog loads extremely fast for me on Internet explorer. Outstanding Blog!
