The General Manager Lagos State Waterways Authority, Oluwadamilola Emmanuel on Friday, July 31, 2020 said the State did not record any form of boat mishap during Sallah celebration.
LASWA boss in a statement said the last boat mishap recorded in the State took place in Apapa enroute Badagry, on Wednesday where 10 people were confirmed dead.
The General Manager who gave an account of the incidence said that the boat captain got distracted in the process of collecting fares and the boat capsize while some passengers are yet to put on their jackets.
“Rescue effort was immediate as the boat was just a few meters from the landing but only five people were rescued”.
“LASWA had apprehended the boat captain and has handed him over to marine police for further investigation and sanctions.
The Emergency and Regulatory Authorities are still on a search and rescue operation” he said.
