Mr. Hakeem Muri- Okunola, Lagos State Head of Service, has reaffirmed the current administration’s commitment to continuous workforce capacity development through training and re-training to enhance capacity building, thoroughbred officers who are competent, versatile, and relevant to the State’s current and future needs.
This was stated by Femi Ogun, Head of Public Affairs, at the opening ceremony of a two-day retreat organized by the Public Service Office, Office of the Head of Service for Directors of Administration and Human Resource in the Lagos State Public Service, which took place recently at the Lagos Continental Hotel in Victoria Island, Lagos.
The Head of Service, Lagos State, added that the theme of this year’s retreat, “Principles, Policies, Practices, and Procedures of Human Resource Management in the Public Service: A Comprehensive Look at the Workplace in Current Realities,” is appropriate given the critical role of administration and human resources in policy making, strategic planning, and policy implementation.
Despite the ravaging Covid-19 pandemic that has devastated the workplace, the retreat is designed to critically examine the public service and the responsibilities of administration and human resource in light of new realities.
Muri- Okunola admonished the Directors, Administration, and Human Resources in the public service to develop guiding principles and policies that will focus more on training needs, incentives, motivation, a non- subjective staff performance evaluation and management system, as well as a reward and compensation system that is fair and equitable for all public servants in the State.
He thanked Mr. Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo- Olu, and his Deputy, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, for their unwavering support for all public servants in the state, particularly in the areas of capacity training and a conducive working environment, which has improved the workforce’s effectiveness and efficiency.
Earlier in his welcome address, Mr. Samson Ajibade, Permanent Secretary, Public Service Office, thanked Mr. Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo- Olu, for approving the retreat as part of his promises to ensure that the entire workforce was adequately kept abreast and developed themselves in line with the public service vision of becoming a world-class organization committed to excellence.
As a result, he urged the participants to take advantage of the training provided by seasoned professionals in the field of administration, as well as to make the session interactive.
