The Lagos State Government has re-inaugurated the Monitoring, Enforcement and Compliance Team, MEC, on dislodgement of illegal abattoirs, seizure of stray animal, monitoring of meat transportation and regulation of veterinary premises.
The acting Commissioner for Agriculture, Ms Abisola Olusanya, who performed the ceremony in Alausa Ikeja stated that the measure was part of the Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration’s efforts to check the menace of illegal slaughter slabs and the attendant negative impact on public health.
The MEC team include all stakeholders in the red meat value-chain as well as operatives of the Lagos State Task Force on Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit, and that of the State Rapid Response Squad and Governor’s Monitoring Team who will be providing security during enforcement and monitoring exercises.
