Work has begun on the construction of an industrial leather hub in Matori, Lagos State
The leather hub is one of three others; garment and gemstone, aimed at boosting employment and creating a conducive working space, access to modern equipment for artisans
Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, Mrs Yetunde Arobieke who made this known while giving a scorecard of the Ministry in the past one year stated that an online portal to serve as a virtual market place for artisans and consumers to showcase their products to the global market has also been established.
In addition to upscaling of artisan’s skills, the Commissioner said the State Government had also embarked on an employability support project to increase the pool of skilled manpower to alleviate the acute shortage of employable labour
While the State Employment Trust Fund continues to give out loans and financial supports to MSME’s, Mrs Arobieke stated that Lagos Innovates, a platform dedicated to provide support to the fast-growing and exciting startup ecosystem in the State, especially those under three years was also rolled out.
She said the Ministry which facilitated the payment of the Federal Government’s conditional cash transfer, and N-Power programme had also gotten approval for the enrolment of additional 5,438 beneficiary households in Shomolu, Agege, Ifako-Ijaiye, Ajeromi Ifelodun, Alomosho and Ikorodu local Government areas.
