Previledged Nigerians have been called upon to assist Goverrnment in the socio-economic development of the Country by empowering people in their areas to be economically self reliant.
Some Lagosians made the call at the graduation of about three hundred youths and women in Ajegunle, Ajeromi-Ifelodun Federal Constituency of Lagos State, who benefitted from a free skills acquisition programme under an initiative known as “Skill Up Ajegunle”.
The programme was sponsored by a foreign based philanthropist , Chief Oladipupo Wilson-Diriwar who is from the area.
Commending the sponsor of the programme, participants at the graduation ceremony believed that if most of the youths were actively engaged in their respective trades , the problem of youth restiveness and insecurity at large in the Country, would be checked as young people would channel their energy to their works and stay off crimes.

A Ward Chairman in Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government, Mr. Adewale Adeniji said the beauty of the programme was that beneficiaries were drawn from virtually all the wards in the local Government, as he thanked the sponsor for giving back to his people in such unique way.
In his remark the Chief Supreintendant of Police from SCID Panti Yaba , Lagos Mr. Hakeem Fijabi called on other politicians in particular to borrow a left from the gesture as their contribution to national peace and progress.
Contributing, the Divisional Police Officer in the area, Mrs. Eze Grace who deployed officers to maintain peace throughout the event, also believed that by engaging more young people , the work of the police would be lighter.
Beneficies who were given start up kits including computers for those that learnt Web Designing, thanked their benefactor and wished him well.
Beneficiaries of the skills empowerment programme were trained in areas of such as catering, Web designing, tailoring, hair dressing and others.
