The Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry on restitution for victims of SARS and related abuse failed to sit today, Saturday November 7, 2020 for lack of quorum.
Although the panel had scheduled today proceedings to take evidence from the Nigerian Army.
However, the proceedings failed due to the absence of youths representatives, Majekodunmi Temitope and Oduala Olorunrinu.
The Panel Chairman, Justice Doris Okuwobi announced the suspension of the sitting and adjourned till November 14, 2020.
Justice Okuwobi said it is important that all sittings of the panel is held in accordance with the law to avoid controversy.
Lead counsel to Nigerian Army, a Senior Advocate, Mr. Akinlolu Kehinde, said that they came before the panel in pursuant to a summon dated October 28.
He expressed appreciation to members of the panel for taking them into confidence on the challenges it is facing.
Meanwhile, Counsel to Lagos State Government, Olukayode Enitan, also Senior Advocate, noted that the issue of quorum is of utmost importance as to the competence of the panel to proceed and as to the integrity of recommendation to be made at the end of proceedings.
Counsel to #EndSARS protesters, Mr Adesina Ogunlana, aligned himself with the submission of other counsels to suspend the proceedings.
