The Lagos State Government has announced the revisal of the 2018 Land Use Law, which increased the rate of Land Use Charge under the immediate past administration.
This development according to the State Government is to address the agitations of Lagosians on the increament on Land Use Charge , since it was introduced in 2018 and to reduce the financial pressure, the Law brought on the masses.
Speaking at a media briefing in Alausa – lkeja, while unveiling the 2020 Land Use Reform, the Commissioner of Finance, Dr Rabiu Olowo said the reduction of the Land Use charge was a clear indicator that the Governor Babajide Sanwo- olu led administration is responsive to the yearnings of his people.
He explained that the reform also considered multiple Land Use Charge payment channels and efficient customer service management by setting up a call centre , in other to ensure prompt issue resolution from Lagosians who wish to pay their Land Use charge, have complaints or inquiry on the Land Use charge in the State.
Dr Olowo also announced that under the 2020 Land Use reform, a property owned and occupied by a pensioner is exempted from paying the Land use charge, as well as a significant reduction in the penalities for defaulters of Land use charge in the past three years.
According to the Commissioner, the new reform translates to over five billion potential revenue waived by the State Government for the comfort of millions of Lagosians.
The Commissioner of Finance , Dr Olowo also use the medium to appreciate Lagosians who have been very committed to the payment of their Land Use Charge, despite the economic hardship created by the COVID- 19 pandemic.
