With less than twenty – four hours to the Eid El Kabir, majority of Lagos residents have lamented over the price hike of tomatoes, rice and other food items.
Some popular ram markets in Agege and environs are currently witnessing low patronage due to high cost of the choice animal and food stuffs for the celebration.
A ram market along the Lagos Abeokuta Expressway visited was empty as only the sellers were seen with their stocks.
The ram sellers lamented that the turnover for this year’s Eid-el Kabir had greatly reduced compared to the previous years.
The sellers noted that they are worried that from all indications, many muslims faithful will not be able to sacrifice ram during the Sallah period.
Also, a cow seller, Yunusa Ahmed expressed sadness that the current economic situation in Nigeria has caused a sharp decline in the cow business.
They urged the government to help look into the insecurity in the northern part of the Country as the prices of the livestocks has skyrocketed by nearly one hundred per cent, especially in the last two weeks.
