The operations of the National Union of Road Transport Workers in the Idumota area of Lagos State have been halted by the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu-led government.
Gbenga Omotosho, the Lagos State Commissioner of Information and Strategy, confirmed the suspension on Tuesday.
InsightnaijaTV reports that the decision was made shortly after a violent incident in the neighborhood.
Remember that the Lagos State Rapid Response Squad detained Kunle Poly and Sego, two prominent members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in the state, on Monday.
Alhaji Mustapha Adekunle is the NURTW Lagos Treasurer, while Alhaji Abdulazeez Adekunle Lawal is the Chairman of the group’s Lagos Island ‘B’.
According to InsightnaijaTV, the two were apprehended by the RSS, which is led by State Commander CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi.
The police accused the couple of being behind dangerous conflicts in Idumota and its environs, which have hampered business activities in the area, according to a press release.
Last Thursday, factions of the NURTW battled in Idumota, resulting in the deaths of two people and the halting of commercial and vehicle traffic.
“The arrest was effected today at a meeting where the two NURTW members along with some other stakeholders converged,” RRS said.
InsightnaijaTV reports that Kunle Poly and Sego are currently being transported to Zone II in Onikan, Lagos.
