The Lagos State Government has started an investigation into the skipper of the unfortunate “R & N 2” boat, which capsized on Wednesday in the state’s Ikorodu region.
Two passengers perished in the boat tragedy, but 15 others were saved.
Oluwadamilola Emmanuel, general manager of the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), told reporters that the captain was already being questioned about what happened.
Apparently, the boat experienced a technical failure at an inopportune time and submerged just 200 meters from its takeoff location.
The manager also said that 15 individuals were saved after the Water Guards and the LASWA search and rescue squad were immediately summoned to the area of the tragedy.
“Two female unconscious passengers were rushed to the nearest hospital for treatment. They were, however, later confirmed dead at the hospital.
“The boat captain is currently being investigated by the relevant authorities while full investigation into the cause of this mishap is ongoing, to get more details.”
