The report of the state’s judicial commission on police brutality has been released by the Lagos government.
Remember that the Lagos administration established the judicial panel on October 19, 2020, in response to proposals made during the #EndSARS protests to investigate complaints of police brutality in the state.
On November 15, the panel submitted two reports: one on police brutality cases and the other on the investigation into the Lekki incident.
The incident at the Lekki tollgate on October 20, 2020 resulted in nine deaths, according to the panel.
A white paper committee put up by the Lagos administration, however, rejected the figure and stated the panel’s findings were not backed by data, noting “basic contradictions.”
According to a statement signed by Moyosore Onigbanjo, the state’s attorney-general and commissioner for justice, the panel’s report is now officially available to the public.
“For further inquires, members of the public can contact the office of the Hon. Attorney-general & commissioner for justice at info@lagosstatemoj.org,” Onigbanjo said.
