The Lagos State Assembly has proposed a two years imprisonment for any person that accesses mobilization fees and absconds or does not carry out the services or works commensurate with the fee paid.
This is part of the amendment to the Lagos State Public Procurement Agency Law 2015 presented to stakeholders at a Public Hearing organized by the House Committee on Procurement.
The bill also seeks to increase the mobilization fee in Lagos State from twenty to forty percent of the contract sum.
The Chairman of the House Committee on Procurement Mr. Rauf Age-Sulaiman said that the amendment to the extant law was to strengthen the procurement process in the State.
Contributing to the hearing, the Vice Chairman of Oshodi Local Government Mr. Dayisi Osho called for the insertion of a time frame in the bill to determine when contractors could be said to have absconded.
The Speaker of the House, Chief Mudashiru Obasa represented by the Deputy Speaker, Alhaji Wasiu Sanni-Eshinlokun said the issues raised in the memoranda submitted would be given consideration before the House pass the bill.
