The 25-year-old sales lady, Jumoke Oyeleke, killed by stray bullets during ‘Yoruba nation’ rally on July 3 at the Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Park, has been laid to rest in Atan Cemetery in Yaba area of Lagos around today Friday, August 20, 2021.
InTv reports that despite threat by the Police, the planned Yoruba Nation rally held at Ojota Park, Lagos on Saturday, 7 July 2021. Unfortunately, a 25-year-old sales lady, Jumoke Oyeleke was displaying her drinks at a shop was killed by stray bullet.
The protest, which started with singing and chanting, got rowdy as security operatives shot in the air, and also teargassed protesters but the lifeless body of the girl was discovered and the police immediately denied responsibility for her death, saying its officers did not fire a single live bullet at the rally.
The Lagos State Government charged a Yoruba Nation protester, Tajudeen Bakare, aka Ogboni Chief, for Oyeleke’s death but the charge was later withdrawn for lack of evidence.
The family and sympathisers in July held a candlelight procession in her honour while investigation into her death continues.
