Gunmen who pretended to be clients abducted Hajia Amina Folorunsho-Balogun, a trader.
According to Vanguard, the unidentified gunmen entered her business in the Plywood neighborhood of Epe, Lagos, on Sunday, August 7, at around 10.07 p.m., asking to purchase water. She was reportedly in the store with her husband. One of the strangers accidentally turned off the electricity generator during the transaction, turning the establishment completely dark. They gathered the couple’s cell phones and assaulted them. Then they snuck her into their car and drove off, locking her husband inside the store.
On Monday, August 8, the victim’s husband was contacted by the kidnappers, who demanded a N50 million ransom for her release, according to a relative who spoke on the condition of anonymity.
“They informed him they wouldn’t go below N10 million after much haggling. The family requested N2 million, but they turned it down. We have been making fund appeals while moving from place to place.
The relative stated, “We are pleading with the Lagos State administration and well-meaning Nigerians to help us.
The state police command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the occurrence and announced that an inquiry into the trader’s kidnapping had started.
“The case was reported and we are making substantial movements. We don’t want to say much but we are making progress.”
