Family of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the IPOB leader and secessionist, has expressed gratitude to the UN for indicting Nigeria and Kenya in the capture and detention of the secessionist.
It was reported that the UN Human Rights Council Working Group on Arbitrary Custody had indicted both the Nigerian and Kenyan governments for the unlawful detention of Kanu, including his arrest, extraordinary rendition, torture, and ongoing detention.
The UN has consequently requested that the Nigerian government free the secessionist immediately and without conditions and compensate him appropriately for his rights violations.
In response, Kanunta Kanu, the IPOB leader’s younger brother, praised the choice and thanked everyone who had worked to secure Kanu’s release from the Department of State Services’ (DSS) detention.
The tweet reads, “The Kanu family thanks the UN for condemning the extraordinary rendition of #MaziNnamdiKanu & directing Nigeria to release & compensate him.
“We also thank @BruceFeinEsq & Prof Rachel Murray for initiating & leading this effort & Barr @AloyEjimakor for working closely with them”.
